"Fabrics for Time" is a series that explores the tension between texture, depth, and the passage of time. The title plays on the idea of the "fabric of time", suggesting not only the woven nature of existence but also the role of material as a medium for capturing time itself. Using woven cotton gauze as a key element, I create layered, three-dimensional compositions where the fabric holds a fixed, structured form. The squares evoke a sense of order and repetition, yet their soft, tactile textures introduce an organic contrast that invites contemplation.
The background colors, often deep and evocative, provide a visual balance to the fabric’s static structure, imbuing the pieces with emotional resonance. This balance between the material and the intangible encourages viewers to reflect on time not only as a dynamic, living phenomenon but also as something that gradually wears away at us—shaped by memories, experiences, and the weight of accumulated moments. In this sense, the fabric becomes more than just material; it becomes a vessel for time, holding its shape even as time itself remains fluid. Some pieces also capture specific points in time or events, preserving the essence of those moments through the layers of texture and color—like fragments of time woven into form.
